Introduction
The Sector Led Improvement, Physical Activity Assessment Tool. It has been developed in conjunction with the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID) regional office and a PH consultant.
The tool is based on the International Society for Physical Activity and Health (ISPAH) publication, Eight Investments That Work for Physical Activity and there are 8 tabs to the spreadsheet:
- whole of school programmes
- active transport
- active urban design
- healthcare
- public education, including mass media
- sport and recreation for all
- workplaces
- community-wide programmes.
What happened?
The tool is intended to help assess where the sector (Local Authorities and Stakeholders) is at with levels of Physical Activity in our communities – a ‘stocktake’ – and each tab has useful links to documents which evidence the benefits of Physical Activity. It can be used as a stand-alone self-assessment tool or in conjunction with other measurement/audit tools within your individual organisations and is useful to indicate how universal and targeted approaches to Physical Activities are delivered and how have inequalities been addressed.
Who was involved?
The tool is being explored to be used via the Join The Movement (Physical Activity Group in Hartlepool). This includes representaives across sectors. It is envisaged 8 working groups will be set up within the 8 priority groups. It will identify gaps where partners arent representative and also provide a mapping exercise of current partners.
When?
This will provide a benchmark and it has been discussed that it could support or align to the place based mapping exercise in Hartlepool.
How?
The senior lead nurse practioner from Hartlepool Public Health is leading on this piece of work and will drive it forward through a collaborative approach via join the movement.
