Red Hall update

Introduction

I just wanted to provide people with a bit of an update on what's happening at Red Hall with the Talent Plan work. I'm going to use this is my working area for updates, plans, changes of plans and to create and log impact.

What happened?

The work at Red Hall so far has mainly centred around activity at the school, developing CYP skills and helping to try and further them along the school plan - ie getting them into school clubs and doing more activity in and around the school. After discussions with the school I decided we needed to try and figure out ways to offer services that lead into a clear and definitive exit route for the children.

Who was involved?

Myself from TVS, Laura Snowdon from Red Hall, Darlington Sport Basketball Club, Darlington Locomotives and Stephen Gordon from TU Nova. Parent consultation.

When?

The activities will be starting a week on Friday for the Basketball sessions and the Girls football will be starting after February half term. These sessions will be on going dependent upon our footfall to clubs and uptake within the sessions at the school.

Where?

Red Hall School for the sessions, with exit routes into three community clubs.

How?

Clubs to be involved were highlighted due to the interests from the CYP who have been attending the current Talent Plan sessions and feedback in terms of the sports they would like to get more involved with. Also due to previous interests from children who attend Red Hall and conversations with Laura the head of the school.

Why?

A lot of our presumptions and insight we have gathered is that children in Red Hall tend to not leave the estate. This is something I really want to try and get past and offering them these taster sessions in school will hopefully allow them to gain the confidence and competence to be able to want to attend out of school clubs.

So?

The whole point of this is to try and get the Red Hall children into the community and engaging in local sports clubs. We will be offering them not only coaching in the school, but access to ten free sessions at any of their chosen sport they would like to attend. I managed to make an agreement with each of the clubs that they would fund five and we would fund the other five. I am going to make it as easy as possible for the children to attend these sessions. They will each get a card with an area for the club to mark they attended, I am going to check out bus routes and give exact dates and times and try to remove as many barriers as possible.

I am fully aware that offering ten free sessions may mean a child will go to ten and as soon as there is a cost implication they may not be able to attend and this is something I will look to tackle if it comes to this.
